Trial opens this week for a man charged in the murder of a southeastern Pennsylvania barbershop owner almost eight years ago. Prosecutors in Chester County are seeking the death penalty against 37-year-old Duron Peoples of Coatesville in the October 2006 murder of 33-year-old 33-Jonas Suber.

PennDOT has announced that Tuesday through Thursday, weather permitting, construction crews will conduct repairs on the 3rd Street bridge over Interstate 83 just north of the Route 581 interchange in Lemoyne. Motorists are advised that between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., they will encounter left-lane restrictions on northbound and southbound I-83 under 3rd Street in Lemoyne, as crews repair a bridge pier.

WEST CHESTER Chester County commissioners at their meeting last week praised the retiring executive director of a nonprofit in Coatesville that fixes houses for county residents. Good Works' mission is "to extend the love of Jesus Christ to low-income homeowners by making their homes warmer, safer, and drier."

The new 1.5 mile stretch runs along Lincoln Highway, crossing route 100 dead ends a few yards from the Exton Walmart. As of 11 a.m. Thursday there was still a fence with "No Trespassing" signs set up at Exton Park Trailhead blocking off the trail but that fence came down shortly after.

As state lawmakers spent the spring grappling with ways to raise money and close a projected budget shortfall of more than $1 billion, there was a potential revenue source sitting under their noses the whole time - the pot of uncollected, overdue taxes, much of it owed by Pennsylvania businesses. That's one reason the state's Revenue Department has been ramping up efforts to recover past-due debts, armed with new laws that allow it to conduct expanded audits, as well as more aggressive - and efficient - tax collection.
