As state lawmakers spent the spring grappling with ways to raise money and close a projected budget shortfall of more than $1 billion, there was a potential revenue source sitting under their noses the whole time - the pot of uncollected, overdue taxes, much of it owed by Pennsylvania businesses. That's one reason the state's Revenue Department has been ramping up efforts to recover past-due debts, armed with new laws that allow it to conduct expanded audits, as well as more aggressive - and efficient - tax collection.

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan announced that the Safe Kids Chester County Coalition is sponsoring a National Seat Check Saturday event to be held on Saturday, September 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., located at Kelly Chevrolet, 600 Nutt Road, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on-site to install and inspect each seat for a safe fit and answer any questions parents and caregivers have about best practices when traveling in a vehicle.

The Unionville-Chadds Ford School District confirmed this week that it has seen its first case of the EV-D68 virus - a virulent virus that has hospitalized some children in parts of the midwest - involving a Unionville High School student "who will remain home until cleared to return." But district officials said that they are taking steps to make sure everything possible is being done to prevent the spread of the virus.
