How to watch the NHL's Global Series 2019: Time, TV channel, live stream

Sporting News — (Jackie Spiegel)

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Buffalo Sabres have traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to compete in the latest version of the Global Series.

Their two-game set in Stockholm, Sweden, will mark the 33rd and 34th regular-season games to be played outside North America in NHL history. Each team has played abroad once before — Tampa Bay lost two games to the New York Rangers in Prague, Czech Republic, in 2008, and the Sabres defeated the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings in Helsinki, Finland, and Berlin, Germany, respectively, in 2011.

The first regular-season NHL games in Sweden were also played in 2008; Swede Daniel Alfredsson collected two assists in the second one, an Ottawa Senators victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. This weekend's games will feature seven Swedish-born players: Buffalo's Linus Ullmark, Rasmus Dahlin, Lawrence Pilut, Marcus Johansson, Johan Larsson and Victor Olofsson, and Tampa Bay's Victor Hedman, who is expected to suit up despite having missed the previous two games with a lower-body injury.

While the games are always a fun element to the season, four points will be up for grabs as Buffalo (9-4-2) looks to end a two-game losing streak and Tampa Bay (6-5-2) tries to right the ship.
